For the element of shape, I decide to use one plate and one bowl to mimic the circular base of the candle. When the candle is photographed from above, it appears to have a circular shape. When all three circular shapes come together the emphasis is put on the candle because it is the eye-catching one of the bunch. Even if I had used squares instead of circles, the emphasis would have been on the candle because of it's different shape and the glowing effect. In all the ways I applied shape, I was most pleased with the third photograph because it shows how similar the shapes are and that leads the eye to the main object in the center.
LINE:
A line, or a collection of lines, can have many purposes in a photograph depending on how they are used. In this case, I used the grout lines in the floor in order to direct the focus to my object. Each of the three ways are effective because the line(s) are still being used to lead the eye to a certain point. Either by using a corner, or multiple diagonals, the focus of the eye is always brought to the candle in these 3 photos, because lines have direction.
BALANCE:
Balance, in photography, is yet another way to being focus to the main object. It can be used either symmetrically or asymmetrically. Many people prefer one or the other and see one as more effective than the other. In this series of three photos it can be seen that each way is effective. I chose smaller candles because I thought it would complement the main object, but because they are smaller they are also perfect for unbalance. Out of all the photographs, the three that came from balance were the most unique because of all the options it has. In the third photo of this series, you can see that I was able to switch the focus from the one big candle to the onw little candle.
COLOR (light):
Because color is not the easiest to enhance in a candle, I chose to play with light. Also, because it was nighttime, I did not have very many options. Luckily, I used my flash feature to my favor. In the first photograph I chose to keep the lights on, and use flash. For the second I turned the lights off and used flash, but I covered it with my finger. And for the third, I kept the lights turned off and did not use the flash. Although the first two photographs are not as visually pleasing, it is nice to see the colors as a result of our actions. Color is easily manipulated and these three photos prove that.
